Colin Baxter
After 18 years at a large national firm, Colin joined CWCB as a partner in September 2009. He has a bilingual practice in civil litigation and administrative law and specializes in complex commercial cases.
Colin acts for a variety of sophisticated commercial clients. He represents business owners, franchisors, lessors and lessees, finance companies and trustees in commercial disputes. He is frequently retained for product liability, insurance-related litigation and defamation actions as well as shareholder and trust matters.
Colin routinely advises his clients on appellate advocacy and practice and frequently acts as an agent before the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also appeared as counsel before several federal and provincial public inquiries and has represented his clients in regulatory and disciplinary matters and various other cases involving government or quasi-public entities.
Colin has an enhanced government of Canada security clearance (Top Secret (SA)).
Colin received his B.A. in 1983 and his M.A. in 1984 from Stanford University. Colin received his LL.B. and B.C.L. from McGill University in 1990.
Colin served as law clerk to Justices Wilson and Iacobucci at the Supreme Court of Canada. He has appeared before various tribunals and panels, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada. He was recognized by the Quebec Superior Court as an expert in Ontario law of commercial contracts, and has worked as an arbitrator/mediator on the Commercial Law panel of The Electronic Courthouse.
Colin was called to the Ontario bar in 1992.
Colin is bilingual in French and English.
